Business Studies at High Arcal has traditionally been a very successful and popular course at GCSE.

Key Stage 4 Curriculum

Students currently study the Edexcel Business Studies course. This new specification focuses on small businesses. Starting from the identification of a business opportunity moving through to how a small business can be developed. The course provides knowledge and skills in areas such as marketing, finance, people management and the appreciation of the wider world and how this can affect a growing operation.

Unit 1: Introduction to small business

Unit 2: Investigating small business

* A controlled assessment task that focuses on investigating a small to medium sized local business of the students choice.

Unit 3: Building a business

* Effective financial management
* Effective people management
* The wider world that affects business


Key skills

Business Studies covers a wide range of key-skills such as communication, application of number and ICT. It also develops Enterprise Education skills valuable in the workplace such as problem solving, team work, communication and an approach to new ideas that is both innovative and creative.

Business Studies is a broad and wide ranging subject. Students are able to use their knowledge to benefit them in a variety of careers in all main business functions, in both the private and public sector. Business Studies is a popular choice amongst AS/A2 level students and is also one of the most popular degree choices for undergraduates.
